This is Canadian Shield country. Bedrock shows up where a drawing promised soil. Clay pockets hold water. Cottage roads limit what you can stage. Municipal and health-unit requirements are not optional. We plan for that on the first walk, not after the machine is already on the lot.
The work is meant to last through freeze-thaw: drainage, compaction, armour stone, masonry, septic, and fireplaces, finished so the next trade can start.
Our story
Kenny and Erin Prince, a married couple, moved to Thessalon in 2013. They started with a farm, a stable and a farrier business, KP Horse Shoeing, which still shoes and trims horses across Ontario.
In 2017 they started a small excavation business on Basswood Lake Road. They run Basswood together, with Erin as Partner. Today Basswood Inc. runs excavation, septic, masonry, outdoor living, fireplaces, landscape design and snow contracting out of the same address, with a local crew that is fully insured, bonded and covered by WSIB.

How a job runs

Walk the lot
Access, soils, grades, septic potential, and what the ground will actually carry.

Layout and approvals
Marks on the ground, permits, and the health-unit or township path before the machine starts.
03
Excavate and install
Cut, set the work, and backfill and compact as the install proceeds, not left as a leftover.
04
Final grade
Drainage, restore the surface, and leave the lot ready for the next trade.
